    • The physical rigor of each workout this week was the instrument used to test the players mentally. It was designed to be as much a mental challenge as a physical one according to sources on and close to the team.
    • One funny anecdote, after workouts on Monday, the players had to walk back to the dormitories (as always). No buses. However this time it was in the freezing weather (low 20’s), and frost developed on some of the guys’ hair before they got back inside which got a good gallows humor laugh from those involved.
    •  They were encouraged not to squander all of the gains they were made and if they did, their position-mates would share in the consequences.
    • In conjunction with Wizner’s co-presenter Christopher Soghoian, Snowden called for end-to-end encryption that would keep the NSA from snooping on data simply by tapping into servers or internet backbone cables. The goal, they insisted, wasn’t to “blind the NSA” but to make bulk collection unfeasible.
    • After absconding with leaked NSA documents, Snowden is living in Russia under a temporary asylum agreement, and his future is precarious; US officials have called for him to return and face charges for the leaks. Nonetheless, he said in today’s talk that he doesn’t regret his decisions. “Would I do it again? Absolutely yes,” he said. “I took an oath to defend the Constitution, and I felt the Constitution was being violated on a massive scale.” Snowden’s talk has concluded, but the ACLU will be posting a replay, and a live blog archive is currently available.
    • The final frontier – it’s like a personal assistant for your face
    • Consider: Once upon a time, people purchased sewing patterns (like a program from Thingiverse) and yards of fabric (like filament) and they made their own clothes. I wasn’t alive back then, but I’m pretty sure the process sucked. I
    • The implication in Rose’s remark is that if anything emboldened Russia to send troops to Ukraine, it was what Bush and Cheney did in Georgia, not what Obama did in Syria.
    • While Google has made strides in the past, until now, much of Google’s ability to target on their display network focused on content. While advertisers could control specific sites and placements, DSPs and direct to partner buys often provided superior targeting capabilities. Even networks such as Facebook and Twitter have email level targeting that can ensure impressions are delivered to the correct audience.
    • To combat this, Google is currently beta testing new targeting capabilities through a partnership with Bizo. Bizo has access to over 120 million business professionals across the world. Their B2B database can be leveraged across email, display and social. In this case, with their audience targeting layered on top of GDN buy, you can guarantee your ads are getting in front of the right audience. There is a wide array of audience segments available such as beauty, fashion, parenting, technology, music and many more

    • Surprisingly, the most useful video content is also quite simple to produce. Screencasts, whiteboard sessions or repurposed webinars provide how-to type video content that is more likely to convert than flashy top-of-the-funnel content. This content becomes even more useful when it’s presented in a central repository, a video resource site, where it’s easy for you to manage and simple for your audience to navigate.
    • The best video resource microsites have many different types of video content. They mix customer testimonials, excerpts from live events, webinars, product tours and more.
    • A major benefit of video resource microsites is enhanced SEO. Search engines not only index the content on the page, but also index the video thumbnail if properly configured. This happens when each video lives on a landing page of its own. The URL, heading and text on the page reinforce the search terms.
    • A big part of being useful is enabling your audience to self-service easily. Break up longer form content with interactivity so your viewers can jump to the most relevant content.

    • “Experts making forecasts about megaprojects can be usefully grouped into ‘fools’ or ‘liars,’” Flyvbjerg, a long-time skeptic of large infrastructure projects, said in a statement. “Fools are the reckless optimists who see the future with rose-tinted glasses. These forecasting fools ignore hard facts and uncertainty, betting the family silver on gambles with very low probability of success. Liars deliberately mislead the public for private gain, fiscal or political, by painting overly-positive prospects of an investment, just to get it going. The systematically poor outcomes of large dams suggest that ‘fools’ and ‘liars’ have been at the helm.”
    • To the (now) former  DEA Chief of Intelligence in Mexico, Larry Villalobos, and the former Operations Supervisor for the agency, Joe Bond, Chapo Guzmán appeared to be impressive, intelligent, charismatic and manipulative.
    • Because of their positions in Mexico, the agents had access to information about Guzmán Loera’s “escape” in January of 2001, successful, according to them, thanks to the complicity of officers in Vicente Fox’s government, in addition to the the prison staff.
    • The DEA agents entered the prison pretending to be psychologists contracted by the Mexican government to carry out a study on high level prisoners, and to investigate if the penitentiary was respecting human rights. Zedillo’s government provided them with accreditation documentation.
    • Chapo went pale. Immediately and with clear refrain  he asked: “The three of you?”
    • iring  five years of pent up hate.

“Chapo… Do I call you Chapo or Joaquín?”  Villalobos interrupted.

       “As you wish…”

“Chapo, take it easy, and allow us to ask the questions and that’s how we’ll get to know what you have to say. Alright?”

“That’s fine. Hand on my heart I am going to tell you the truth.”
    • What El Chapo wanted was to negotiate a deal with the DEA,  he would hand over his arch enemies, the Arellano Félix, in exchange for not being extradited to the United States or an offer of a five year sentence.
    • “We are not going to talk about that. If you want to hand over the Arellano Félix to us because you hate them, because they are bastards who kill people all over Mexico, that’s fine. We can help you, but you will not get a deal for 5 or 6 years in the States. We can’t do that.”
    • “We respect each other “Chapo explained. “ You think there is absolutely no respect, but there is. If someone enters a plaza, he looks for who is controlling it and he pays him.
    • Given the studio’s splintered status as a former Call of Duty custodian, Respawn Entertainment has made a multiplayer game fit for those who have spent years peering through the eyes of a speedy killing machine – a seasoned six against six in battles for land or a higher kill count. A history with rapid-fire aim and fleet-footed 3D movement is not essential here, but recommended.
    • A fight for generic control points, for instance, will be spun as fuel-gathering in the war between Titanfall‘s extrasolar factions, with the harshly South African commander commending or commiserating, depending on how you fare by the end.
    • By the way, if you were wondering where Titanfall fits in the spectrum between macho and nerdy, let me tell you that hacking here is literally stabbing a computer with your cyber-knife until it relents.
    • If you’re someone who prefers supporting and healing tasks, I think it would be harder for you to find a comfortable place in a Titanfall team.
    • The device released by Emotiv is the EPOC headset. The EPOC headset [38] is a multi-channel wireless BCI system. This headset is equipped with 14 saline-based wet-contact resistive electrodes for measuring EEG, Electrooculogram (EOG), and facial Electromyogram (EMG).
    • The Neurosky Mind Set [46] is a wireless headset added with an EEG signal acquisition unit. This headset is equipped with earphones and a microphone, and a single dry-contact electrode for measuring the user’s EEG signals on the user’s forehead. Along with the capability of raw EEG recording, the Mind Set has the patented algorithm, named as eSense [47].
    • The main components of the Lightie include an efficient CIGS photovoltaic panel, an LED light, and integrated rechargeable batteries. Following around five to eight hours of exposure to sunlight, the device produces illumination for up to three hours at 300 lumens, or up to eight hours at a reduced 120 lumens. It is very easy to use, and activates automatically when it detects that the sun has set.

    • The current expected cost per device is around US$13, which Suttner told Gizmag is roughly the amount an African family can spend on a month and a half’s supply of kerosene for lighting purposes.
